Garage country, country rock, no matter what you call it, Uncle Leon and the Alibis’ second album offers a fun, unique sound with a Nashville influence. There is definite depth here, however, as the mood ranges from upbeat to mellow to somber. Most in the roller derby community are likely familiar with the title track, which captures the essence of the sport. The rest, however, offers music about drinkin’, women and heartbreak like the catchy “Cousin Dan,” and the mellow “Wakin’ and Bakin” (which is about exactly what you think it’s about). There’s even some social commentary in the almost depressing “The Trash and the Rust.” And really, where else are you going to hear the phrase “butt-naked angel?”
