No stranger to fans of extreme sports, Mike Relm is not your average DJ. Sure, he scratches records and manipulates sounds, but he simultaneously adds visual stimulation via similarly manipulated video footage. Relm in turn creates multimedia mash-ups of sight and sound that include incredible turntablism and beat matching as well as inventive imagery.
Clown Alley features live footage of Relm performing at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, the Coachella Music Festival and at the Winter X Games. The DVD begins with Relm mixing the sounds of Jimi Hendrix's "Fire" with footage from Reservoir Dogs (in which Relm has humorously inserted himself in his signature black suit and tie). He goes on to perform additional audio/video mash-ups including the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" with vintage Mexican wrestling footage and Peanuts cartoons spliced with scenes and music from Pee-wee's Big Adventure.

Interspersed with the live footage are segments in which two creepy clowns chase Relm around town and attempt to obtain a mysterious briefcase he carries with him. These scenes are presented in 3-D and the DVD even comes with two sets of 3-D glasses. Other scenes include Relm going through self defense training with a guy named the Himelickmaneuver, who teaches Relm valuable wrestling holds while wearing a luchador mask.
Clown Alley includes two discs, one with a PG rating that excludes things like the puppet sex scene from Team America set to the Outfield's "Your Love," and an R-rated version that runs a few minutes longer. Bonus features include a mix video called "Pancake Mountain" and Relm's performance at the 2007 Pan Am Games.
Mike Relm is on Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom HuckJam through Aug. 24 and will be performing at the Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco on Sept. 20.
