Battlefields - Thresholds of Imbalance

I've never heard anything quite like this album. The concept of forcing experimental metal and lo-fi atmosphere to co-exist within a single album – let alone a single song, is pure brilliance. When they break into the Phrygian (Eastern) scale on the eleven-minute opener, it's spine tingling. Seething, festering onslaughts of brooding downtime are punctuated by severe outbursts of crunchy doom metal. Good raspy screams are hard to find in today's over-produced metal scene. Battlefields' vocalist isn't afraid to pop a blood vessel in search of that perfect gut-wrenching tone. Someone needs to contact Webster and tell him to update the definition of awesome by placing a picture of this album next to it!
