Frank Mullen: Roller derby photographer extraordinaire

©Ed Selby - www.eselby.com

Recently, a dear friend to the Atlanta Rollergirls and an epically talented photographer, passed away.  Frank Mullen was a husband and father, and what we called an OG of the Atlanta Rollergirls.  He supported our league since the very beginning and helped to make it what it is today.  Not only did he make us look good with incredible photos, but he also made us feel good by being such a great friend.

Consequences of Gay Marriage

One of my leaguemates was kind enough to show this to me today, and I thought I would share it with our readers:

Roller Derby IS a Sport

Recently, a disappointing news source decided not to cover the National WFTDA tournament due to the fact that "we don't consider roller derby a sport,"says the Sports Editor of The Oregonian (Portland Newspaper).  After much flack from many rollergirls nationwide, The Oregonian has decided to put up a poll to ask their readers how they feel about roller derby.  The percentage voting for roller derby as a sport is already off the charts. Go vote, make it look even more ridiculous.

FRACTURE Magazine at the ARG Scrimmage-a-thon

We are very excited to be a part of the Atlanta Rollergirls Srimmage-a-thon, Scattered, Smothered and Southern.  We'll be there all day taking pictures and talking to all the fancy derby ladies.  I'll even be there strapping on some skates and playing along with my vegetarian sisters.  If you're planning on coming, make sure you stop by and say hello at the FRACTURE Magazine table.  I'll entice you by hinting that there might be some goodies available!

Western Regional Winners!

So now we know which teams are travelling to Portland in November.  It is officially B.A.D. Rollergirls, Duke City Rollergirls, Rat City Rollergirls, and TXRG.  The most amazing part of the weekend, was of course the upset of Duke City to win out over the number one team Kansas City!  The games were amazing, and every girl worked their butts off.  Each team should be proud of themselves for being apart of derby history.  Now let's see what the Eastern Regionals have in store for us.

Western Regionals are underway!
